A little piece of Bulgaria, in your own kitchen

I grew up in Bulgaria, where yogurt isn’t just a breakfast pot from the supermarket. It’s part of everyday life. People eat it at almost every meal, stir it into soups, turn it into salads, and make it at home in kitchens across the country.

It’s also where the story of yogurt as we know it begins. In 1905, a young Bulgarian scientist called Stamen Grigorov looked under his microscope and discovered the bacteria that turns milk into yogurt. It was named Lactobacillus bulgaricus, after the country it came from. More than a century later, it’s still one of the cultures in almost every yogurt you’ll find.

In this workshop I’d love to share that tradition with you and show you how simple it is to make real, live yogurt at home.

What we’ll cover

Making yogurt from scratch: learn how to make your own live yogurt using a culture starter, and how to keep your culture going from batch to batch.

Incubating at home: discover the warm spots in your kitchen and how to use what you already have to keep your yogurt at just the right temperature.

Quick nourishing granola: while the milk warms on the hob, we’ll make a simple, wholesome granola from real ingredients, lightly sweetened and full of crunch.

Straining for thick yogurt: learn how to make rich, thick yogurt that opens up a whole world of savoury dishes, with a little tasting surprise from my Bulgarian roots.

Your nourishing bowl: we’ll finish by building a bowl for everyone with homemade yogurt and fresh granola, perfect for breakfast, a midday snack, or a healthy treat any time of day.

Who it’s for

We live in such a rushed world, and so often we forget the simple pleasure of making things ourselves. This workshop is for anyone who’d like to slow down, reconnect with real food, and learn skills they can bring into everyday life at home. Whether you’re a busy parent, looking after your gut health, or simply curious about fermented foods, you’ll feel right at home.
